Like many bands coming from the 1990s DIY hardcore underground Detestation participated in the vast network of underground labels and distributors and scattered much of their oeuvre across numerous compilations, split 7's, and singles, some of which due to the diffuse distribution networks of the time went in and out of print quickly or were only distributed in limited geographic areas. The end result of this process was that what would today be a solid LP wound up being dispersed over a wide range of records now known only to collectors. This approach achieved great impact in the 90s by spreading the music to the greatest number of people possible. However, from our vantage point, collecting all these tracks together means they can fully be appreciated in their totality.
This LP compiles all of the bands original material from splits, singles, and compilations onto a single LP. Detestation played raw, powerful, hardcore punk, infused with a rebellious passion for radical change. Like all great protest music, that fervent desire for change comes through as pure unbridled energetic power in the music. Then as now, the uninitiated tend to lump all bands with stark black and white graphics and radical lyrics as "crust". However, Detestation played hard charging hardcore punk very heavily influenced by Finnish bands of the 1980's such as Melakka, Appendix and Kaaos as well as bands like Crucifix, Poison Idea and Discharge. The pool of talent that came together on these releases was still young and energetic. But that talent has blossomed as Saira went on to Question, Resolve, Faggot and Rosenkopf. Kelly played bass in Defiance and P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. later progressing to the traditional roots of American rebel music in Dead Moon and Jenny Don't and the Spurs. Brian Hopper played in many other bands and still rages in Hellshock. The Lp comes with a thick booklet reproducing all the original 7" artwork in it's original format. Front cover art by Joe BB.
