Anxiously awaited with bated breath, Abyecta returns with this new release, a ripping 7” single out now on Metadona Records!

Formed by Chilean guitarist & vocalist Carolina as the only static figure, Abyecta as a live band has undergone several lineup changes.  The current lineup has remained consistent, with members of the trio now based in the US.  This new incarnation of the band has pushed Abyecta’s brand of “punk-metal” into fresh and adventurous territory.

These 2 new songs, “Intenta” and “Amo Esclavo”, each clock in at a length approaching or surpassing the 5-minute mark.  This fresh batch of songs have an intangible grandiose feeling about them, showing Abyecta honing their songwriting with a heightened level of ambition.  Breaking any convention of typical verse-chorus-verse structure, the sections of these songs are more like sophisticated, methodically composed movements.  The songs are like a journey – an epic motorcycle ride through the desert, if you will.  Uncommon for what one might expect from the lean, truncated style of hardcore punk?  Perhaps, but rather than compromising aggression or feeling overly “progressive”, these songs are more like a densely packed, steamrolling barrage of killer riffs -- never waning in intensity or excitement.  Similar to the in-your-face power of a song like Gudon’s “Stoic Violence”, Abyecta delivers an unrelenting assault on the ears.

Clearly influenced by mid-80s Japanese hardcore, “Intenta” channels The Clay’s “Middle East Combat Area” with its nasty, hostile, energetic riffing and groovy, in-the-pocket drumming.   And not unlike many classic Japanese hardcore bands, Abyecta is not afraid to unabashedly incorporate elements of heavy metal.  Not necessarily extreme metal, either.  No death.  No grind.  It feels like Abyecta’s metal influence leans more toward the badass, motorized, traditional heavy metal end of the spectrum.  Abyecta has just as much in common with Acid’s “Black Car” as they do with anything in the world of raging hardcore punk. “Intenta”, for example, has noticeable classic speed metal stylings in the drums, with unexpected, propulsive and frenetic double kick drum work that only adds another level of power and urgency.

The spiderweb-like lead guitar licks and chordal structures recall only the finest excerpts of early Iron Maiden, which are incorporated in the same vein you might expect from a band like Poison Arts.  But what stands out most strongly about Abyecta’s sound is the catchiness of the vocals. Carolina’s style of singing brings to mind a record like “The Day After” 7” flexi by Gas. The melodicism of the vocals gives the songs an anthemic quality.  Super hooky, super memorable.  In “Amo Esclavo”, the song has a few moments where all the instruments drop out completely, and the vocals go totally acapella. These vocal-only moments feel like a big sing-along opportunity when Abyecta will eventually play this song live in front of a crowd.  You can imagine a gathering of metalheads and spiky punks alike, raising their fists clad in leather gauntlets triumphantly into the sky.

Whether you’re a studded-out street punk who just wants to pogo while spending loud night, or you’re a headbanger who craves badass riffs, Abyecta welcomes you to the party.  This 7” single is an exciting new offering that will satiate our appetite until the band one day records a full-length LP.  Available on their upcoming full-US tour in March/April 2026!  Don’t sleep on it, punk.
